About the Bus bridge encoders sonar PCB

Bus bridge encoders sonar is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by makerbus, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 50 mm, with 47 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328_DIP28, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM2940, LTV-826, 754410, 74HCT08 and MCP2562. By type, the board carries 14 capacitors, 11 resistors, 9 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 crystal.

From the project

A PCB that connects a dual H-bridge, dual quadrature shaft encoders and some sonars to a bus.

The are currently 4 revisions -- reva, revb, revc, and revd. The schematic is available as busbridgeencoderssonar.pdf or as busbridgeencoderssonar.svg` in the appropriate revision directory.

* Tie off unused inputs of U7 to 0V or 5V. [x]

* Replace R8, R9, R10, R11, R12, R13 with a 10K ohm SIP package. [x]

Add protection diodes to the motor outputs. The 754410 does not** have protection diodes like the L793D did. [No. If it is an issue, use the L293D instead.]

Bus bridge encoders sonar: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bus bridge encoders sonar use?

The Bus bridge encoders sonar is built around the ATMEGA328_DIP28, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Bus bridge encoders sonar PCB?

The Bus bridge encoders sonar measures 100 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bus bridge encoders sonar?

47 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bus bridge encoders sonar design files?

From the makerbus/bus_bridge_encoders_sonar repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bus bridge encoders sonar design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with makerbus. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Bus bridge encoders sonar without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
