About the PowerShuffler1 PCB

PowerShuffler1 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by marmot-innovations, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 101.6 × 44.5 mm, with 72 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP6401, MAX17550AUB+, ISOLATEDDCDC and MCP73831. By type, the board carries 28 capacitors, 23 resistors, 8 ICs, 4 connectors, 3 diodes and 2 fuses.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

HV isolated DC-DC charger PCBA for balancing weak cells within a large battery stack of Li-Ion cells.

Design bugs and comments: 1. S2 pins 3 and 4 are swapped. Use wire wrap to un-swap them. 2. F2 will drop about 0.1V under full 500mA load when charging. No way to measure OCV in this version. Manually take measurements and compensate by adjusting master MCU. 3. R12 cannot be switched off to stop charging. Everytime the client MCU is turned on to take a measurement it will move energy. 4. To program master MCU, remove R6 and C7 first, then replace them once programming is completed. These components will put too much load on ISP TPI programmer. 5. To program client MCU, remove C24 and…

PowerShuffler1: common questions

What microcontroller does the PowerShuffler1 use?

The PowerShuffler1 is built around the ATTINY, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the PowerShuffler1 PCB?

The PowerShuffler1 measures 101.6 × 44.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PowerShuffler1?

72 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PowerShuffler1 design files?

From the marmot-innovations/PowerShuffler1 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PowerShuffler1 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which marmot-innovations chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the PowerShuffler1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
