About the Launchpad PCB

Launchpad is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by martijncasteel, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 88.9 × 43.2 mm, with 29 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4-MUR, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 7 switches, 7 resistors, 2 connectors, 1 IC and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

Custom made pcb with accompanying software to flash it

My approach is to use the USB HID protocol in full and specifically the USB HID Telephone pages. The goal is to mute and unmute the microphone on Teams on a laptop, even when teams is not in focus.

This repository contains the entire project, /pcb contains the schematics and design of the board. I used Kicad for this. The gerber files and other nessecities for manufacturing are located in the /assembly folder.

Launchpad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Launchpad use?

The Launchpad is built around the ATMEGA32U4-MUR, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Launchpad PCB?

The Launchpad measures 88.9 × 43.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Launchpad?

29 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Launchpad design files?

From the martijncasteel/launchpad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Launchpad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with martijncasteel. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Launchpad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
