About the Rs485-moist sensor pannel PCB

Rs485-moist sensor pannel is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Miceuz, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 5 × 149.5 mm, with 29 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY441-SSU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the SN65HVD72 and MCP1702. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 9 resistors, 3 ICs, 3 diodes, 2 connectors and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Digital (RS485 - based) soil moisture and temperature sensor

A version of I2C soil moisture sensor with several updates - antistatic protection, local voltage regulation and RS485 networking.

This is a contact-less capacitive soil moisture sensor, a continuation of my I2C soil moisture sensor. This particular version of the sensor is suited for more professional installations where long cable runs is a requirement. It adds a local voltage regulator to mitigate the voltage drop and RS485 transceiver to accommodate long wires, also reverse polarity and an additional ESD protection level is added.

Rs485-moist sensor pannel: common questions

What microcontroller does the Rs485-moist sensor pannel use?

The Rs485-moist sensor pannel is built around the ATTINY441-SSU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Rs485-moist sensor pannel PCB?

The Rs485-moist sensor pannel measures 5 × 149.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Rs485-moist sensor pannel?

29 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Rs485-moist sensor pannel design files?

From the Miceuz/rs485-moist-sensor repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Rs485-moist sensor pannel design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which Miceuz chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Rs485-moist sensor pannel without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
