About the Midi footswitch v2 PCB

Midi footswitch v2 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by nathanlong85, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 109 × 74.6 mm, with 72 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the From Arduino (Digital Outputs 22-31), from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 33 resistors, 15 switches, 15 diodes and 8 connectors.

It belongs with the audio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

The idea behind this is to be a customizable, solid footswitch for sending and receiving MIDI commands via USB. The following buttons will be implemented:

The main purpose of this footswitch is to control guitar plugins and presets, specifically in LiveProfessor, but the MIDI out features should all still work fine in another program. Additionally, the footswitch accepts MIDI input. This allows LiveProfessor to send (for example) CC commands when switching presets that will control the button states and have them match up with the plugin states in the preset.

Midi footswitch v2: common questions

What microcontroller does the Midi footswitch v2 use?

The Midi footswitch v2 is built around the From Arduino (Digital Outputs 22-31), from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Midi footswitch v2 PCB?

The Midi footswitch v2 measures 109 × 74.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Midi footswitch v2?

72 components, from 14 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Midi footswitch v2 design files?

From the nathanlong85/midi_footswitch_v2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Midi footswitch v2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which nathanlong85 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Midi footswitch v2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
