About the Motorcontroller hw PCB

Motorcontroller hw is an open source STM32 PCB design by nerdmaennchen, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 40 mm, with 67 components from 30 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F401CBUx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the DRV8313 and LD1117S33TR. By type, the board carries 23 capacitors, 18 resistors, 11 connectors, 6 transistors, 3 ICs and 3 diodes.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

An open hardware PCB to control motors with (BLDC and DC)

A somewhat easy to build two-layer PCB to controll BLDC-motors with.

The board is designed to have: - USB connection (every computer has a USB port but there are virtually no boards out there that offer a USB connection (without an FTDI in between)) - up to 200W (tested) output power (theoretical -- when ignoring trace resistances -- maximum 900W) - digital Hall-Encoder interface - analog/absolute hall-encoder interface - BEMF measurement for hall-less operation - serial interface to cascade multiple BLDC-drivers over one USB interface - two PWM outputs for RC-servo motors - one connector to…

Motorcontroller hw: common questions

What microcontroller does the Motorcontroller hw use?

The Motorcontroller hw is built around the STM32F401CBUx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Motorcontroller hw PCB?

The Motorcontroller hw measures 50 × 40 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Motorcontroller hw?

67 components, from 30 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Motorcontroller hw design files?

From the nerdmaennchen/motorcontroller-hw repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Motorcontroller hw design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which nerdmaennchen chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Motorcontroller hw without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
