About the Relay driver shield

Relay driver shield is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by njh, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 35.6 × 46.4 mm, with 21 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Uno_Shield, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 4 transistors, 4 connectors and 4 diodes.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

An Arduino shield for controlling four 12v relays

An Arduino shield for controlling four 12v relays. The schematic and PCB layout were created using KiCad.

While it is designed for relays, it can be used for powering anything that requires a bit more current or voltage.

The output voltage is determined by the input voltage on the Arduino Board - the VIN pin.

This shield makes use of the Arduino KiCad Library by Nicholas Parks Young.

Relay driver shield: common questions

What microcontroller does the Relay driver shield use?

The Relay driver shield is built around the Arduino_Uno_Shield, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Relay driver shield?

The Relay driver shield measures 35.6 × 46.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Relay driver shield?

21 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Relay driver shield design files?

From the njh/relay-driver-shield repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Relay driver shield design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which njh chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Relay driver shield without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
