About the MacropadV4 PCB

MacropadV4 is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by oms9, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 180 × 150 mm, with 125 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico_W_TestPads, from the Raspberry Pi family. By type, the board carries 80 diodes, 43 switches, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

MacropadV4 is an ortholinear 40key (5 rows, 8 columns) Macropad with 3 EC11 encoders.

MacropadV4 is an ortholinear 40-key (5 rows, 8 columns) Macropad with 3 EC11 encoders. It's main purpose is volume control and to provide extra keys off of my main keyboard for use as a soundboard or to map to hotkeys, similar to a compact Novation launchpad.

It is based on the Rasbperry Pi Pico/W with individual RGB backlight support. It runs on QMK, mainly compiled for use with Vial.

MacropadV4: common questions

What microcontroller does the MacropadV4 use?

The MacropadV4 is built around the Pico_W_TestPads, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the MacropadV4 PCB?

The MacropadV4 measures 180 × 150 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MacropadV4?

125 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MacropadV4 design files?

From the oms9/MacropadV4 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MacropadV4 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with oms9. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the MacropadV4 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
