Project Type: Hardware Design & Firmware Architecture (Stage 2 Task) Target Date: 19-06-2026

This repository contains the hardware design and proposed firmware architecture for a compact, robust industrial encoder node intended for robotic and automation systems. The node is designed to read continuous angular position data from a magnetic rotary encoder and reliably transmit it to a host controller over an RS485 multidrop network.

The KiCad project lives in the pavan1713/Magnetic_encoder_node repository on GitHub; these links point at the commit this page was built from.

Magnetic encoder node: common questions

What microcontroller does the Magnetic encoder node use?

The Magnetic encoder node is built around the U1, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Magnetic encoder node PCB?

The Magnetic encoder node measures 50 × 50 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Magnetic encoder node?

36 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Magnetic encoder node design files?

From the pavan1713/Magnetic_encoder_node repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Magnetic encoder node design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with pavan1713. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Magnetic encoder node without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
