About the Matrix PCB

Matrix is an open source PCB design by picafe, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 33.2 × 33.2 mm, with 9 components from 6 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the HT16K33A-28SSOP. By type, the board carries 3 resistors, 2 connectors, 1 IC, 1 LED, 1 diode and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the power & battery and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

I had already been working on a 32×8 bicolor matrix module and wanted to try the Pendant YSWS before the deadline. An example on the pendant website inspired me to make a bicolor version with an orange fire-style pattern. Fitting the full matrix and controller on one 2/4 layer board was not the most possible, so my design splits into a display PCB and a pendant controller, which are connected with 2.54mm pitch pin headers…

Matrix: common questions

How big is the Matrix PCB?

The Matrix measures 33.2 × 33.2 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Matrix?

9 components, from 6 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Matrix design files?

From the picafe/pendant repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Matrix design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with picafe. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
