About the EduBoard PCB

EduBoard is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Ploos-AS, published on GitHub. It is a board, with 10 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega1284P-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 1 IC, 1 crystal and 1 inductor.

It belongs with the rf & radio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

EduBoard is a family of maker-friendly open-hardware teaching boards for learning microcontrollers from the silicon up.

This directory is the canonical editable hardware source for EduBoard-AVR.

The design is split by function so learners can read it progressively:

1. 01-core.kicadsch — ATmega1284P, power pins, clock and reset. 2. 02-programming-debug.kicadsch — ISP and JTAG. 3. 03-gpio-inputs.kicadsch — LED bank, buttons, DIP switches and ADC potentiometer. 4. 04-serial.kicadsch — TTL UART and RS-232/DE-9. 5. 05-buses.kicadsch — SPI and TWI. 6. 06-output.kicadsch — RGB, buzzer and four-digit display. 7. 07-lcd-expansion.kicadsch` — HD44780 and GPIO expansion.

EduBoard: common questions

What microcontroller does the EduBoard use?

The EduBoard is built around the ATmega1284P-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How many components are on the EduBoard?

10 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the EduBoard design files?

From the Ploos-AS/EduBoard repository on GitHub, which has the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the EduBoard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Ploos-AS. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the EduBoard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
