About the Doorbell2Thread PCB

Doorbell2Thread is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Qeteshpony, published on GitHub under the BSD-2-Clause license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 29 × 39 mm, with 19 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-H2-Zero, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the Mini DC-DC Module. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 4 capacitors, 2 ICs, 2 transistors, 2 switches and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

Turning an old analog doorbell into a smart one...

This is a very simple device that can be connected to an old analog intercom system to notify home assistant about someone ringing the bell. This was specifically made for the system in the house I live in but it might be compatible with yours as well - no guarantees though.

I am using a small form factor ESP32-H2 module (Waveshare ESP32-H2 Mini) because the H2 is low power and the power supply for the intercom can't handle much current.

Doorbell2Thread: common questions

What microcontroller does the Doorbell2Thread use?

The Doorbell2Thread is built around the ESP32-H2-Zero, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Doorbell2Thread PCB?

The Doorbell2Thread measures 29 × 39 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Doorbell2Thread?

19 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Doorbell2Thread design files?

From the Qeteshpony/Doorbell2Thread repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Doorbell2Thread design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its BSD-2-Clause license, which Qeteshpony chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Doorbell2Thread without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
