About the MacroPad1.1 PCB

MacroPad1.1 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by qutino, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 76.7 × 45.2 mm, with 28 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega32U4-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 6 LEDs, 6 diodes, 4 resistors, 1 IC and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

This small macropad is meant to be a prototype and proof of concept for an evolving and iterating design.

Since this will be my first time building the supporting electronics around an ATMEGA32U4 microcontroller, as well as building and flashing the firmware from zero, a design with a smaller scope seemed like the best way to jump into things.

- Switches - This macropad will house 6 mechanical keyswitches, typical MX style and size. - Dimensions - The PCB is 76.66mm x 42.86mm (LxW) with a notch protruding for the USB connector - For case designers, more detailed dimensions can be found Here in the KiCad folder. - Mounting - No holes in the PCB means the design is reliant on the plate be the main…

MacroPad1.1: common questions

What microcontroller does the MacroPad1.1 use?

The MacroPad1.1 is built around the ATmega32U4-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the MacroPad1.1 PCB?

The MacroPad1.1 measures 76.7 × 45.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MacroPad1.1?

28 components, from 13 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MacroPad1.1 design files?

From the qutino/MacroPad1.1 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MacroPad1.1 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which qutino chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MacroPad1.1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
