About the Skidl experiment PCB

Skidl experiment is an open source PCB design by RepRapLtd, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 10 × 14.2 mm, with 6 components from 2 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LM741. By type, the board carries 5 resistors and 1 IC.

From the project

Project to make a photonic neural network using photochromic material for the synaptic weighting adjustments

This is a project to create a neuromorphic analoge neural network. I wanted to get away from using conventional computers (including parallel graphics processors) to do neural simulations and to make something that is a lot more like a real brain.

What I propose is similar to the early work on perceptrons by Rosenblatt from the 1950s that has now been all but abandoned because today it’s much easier to solve a problem by writing some software to do it than by designing and building some electronics to do it. Easier maybe, but at least today we have the advantage of 21st Century electronics.

Skidl experiment: common questions

How big is the Skidl experiment PCB?

The Skidl experiment measures 10 × 14.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Skidl experiment?

6 components, from 2 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Skidl experiment design files?

From the RepRapLtd/AnalogueNeuralNet repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Skidl experiment design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which RepRapLtd chose for the repository.
