About the Gyroscreen PCB

Gyroscreen is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by royalmo, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 25.9 × 21.1 mm, with 20 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny85-20S, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP1703Ax-330xxTT and MPU-6050. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 7 resistors, 3 ICs, 2 diodes and 1 connector.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A USB device that updates your screen orientation programmatically

In this README you will find the documentation about the hardware part of the project.

The 3 KiCAD files present in this directory have been created using KiCAD v8.0 and represent the hardware of the project.

The electric design consists of an ATTiny85 and a accelerometer and gyroscope sensor: MPU6050. They communicate using I2C, and the AVR board communicates with the computer using the USB protocol.

Gyroscreen: common questions

What microcontroller does the Gyroscreen use?

The Gyroscreen is built around the ATtiny85-20S, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Gyroscreen PCB?

The Gyroscreen measures 25.9 × 21.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Gyroscreen?

20 components, from 13 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Gyroscreen design files?

From the royalmo/gyroscreen repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Gyroscreen design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which royalmo chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Gyroscreen without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
