Weedl

About the Weedl PCB

Weedl is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by s-ayitha, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a board, with 21 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 16 connectors, 2 resistors, 1 module, 1 battery holder and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the robotics & motion, power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Autonomous weed removal robot built with a Raspberry Pi 5, a LiDAR, and computer vision.

Weedl drives itself around a fenced yard, finds common backyard weeds (dandelions, first-year bull thistle, etc...), lines up with it, and mechanically uproots them.

Once I realized I could build my own robot that would uproot weeds for my dad, Weedl was born. I believe that autonomous robotics and AI shouldn't replace humans, but replace certain tasks that would other wise be a waste of time. Humans deserve to spend time doing more important things, like spending time with their family, and I hope Weedl can achieve this.

Weedl: common questions

What microcontroller does the Weedl use?

The Weedl is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How many components are on the Weedl?

21 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Weedl design files?

From the s-ayitha/Weedl repository on GitHub, which has the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Weedl design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which s-ayitha chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Weedl without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
