About the Split-65 PCB

Split-65 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by samlli, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 325 × 125 mm, with 213 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 304050022. By type, the board carries 81 LEDs, 77 diodes, 15 resistors, 14 connectors, 14 capacitors and 4 ICs.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

Split staggered 65% keyboard

It aims to remain loyal to the standard ansi layout, making the split_65 second nature to use. The sturdy two part aluminum construction ensures that the keyboard will survive whatever torture is thrown at it over the years

Possible layouts are shown below - the pcb offers stepped caps lock, tsangan, and split backspace support, and users are free to mix and match layouts as needed to suit their needs.

Split-65: common questions

What microcontroller does the Split-65 use?

The Split-65 is built around the ATMEGA32U4-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Split-65 PCB?

The Split-65 measures 325 × 125 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Split-65?

213 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Split-65 design files?

From the samlli/Split-65 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Split-65 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which samlli chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Split-65 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
