About the Mcu PCB

Mcu is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by skiz, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 68.8 × 53.3 mm, with 48 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_SHIELD, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the UA78M10CKVURG3 (10V REG), PCA9685PW and TB6612FNG(O,C,8,EL. By type, the board carries 18 capacitors, 16 resistors, 6 connectors, 4 ICs, 1 switch and 1 diode.

From the project

4DOF Motor Control Unit

Overview -------- This hardware project is based on several existing Arduino boards, and shields, combining them along with some additional hardware to provide clean bipolar 10vdc control of up to 3 industrial motor control units for use with the SMC3 motion platform software available on Github.

The SMC3 software suite is specifically designed to interact with SimTools which generates motion queues from existing simulator integrations running on Windows.

Mcu: common questions

What microcontroller does the Mcu use?

The Mcu is built around the ARDUINO_SHIELD, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Mcu PCB?

The Mcu measures 68.8 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Mcu?

48 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Mcu design files?

From the skiz/mcu repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Mcu design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with skiz. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Mcu without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
