About the C64-wedge psu PCB

C64-wedge psu is an open source PCB design by timperi, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70 × 54 mm, with 22 components from 16 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LM2576T-ADJ. By type, the board carries 6 capacitors, 5 diodes, 3 resistors, 2 inductors, 1 IC and 1 LED.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

A replacement PCB for the C64 Wedge PSU

A replacement PCB for the C64 Wedge PSU.

This PCB is a direct replacement for the PCB in the “wedge” shaped C64 PSU. The old linear regulator, which often fails and can cause overvoltage, is replaced with a modern switching regulator. All components are through-hole.

The KiCad PCB was reworked for rev 2.0 (current silk 2.1): U1 (LM2576) is placed closer to the wedge middle wall (the inner case wall along that edge of the PCB — not the outer wedge shell). That frees vertical space for the TO-220 heatsink and usually means little or no lead forming on the regulator compared to older layouts.…

C64-wedge psu: common questions

How big is the C64-wedge psu PCB?

The C64-wedge psu measures 70 × 54 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the C64-wedge psu?

22 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the C64-wedge psu design files?

From the timperi/c64-wedge-psu-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the C64-wedge psu design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which timperi chose for the repository.
