About the Ti57mcu PCB

Ti57mcu is an open source STM32 PCB design by tomcircuit, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 18 × 74 mm, with 30 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F103TBUX, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the CAT4016HV6-GT2, TLV70033_SOT23-5, PIN_SMALL_SINGLE_DEVICE, PIN_LARGE_SINGLE_DEVICE and GUIDE_10X10. By type, the board carries 12 ICs, 5 capacitors, 4 transistors, 3 connectors, 2 test points and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

MCU-based retrofit to TI-57 Programmable Calculators

This project came about because I stumbled across a TI-57 calculator with a "bad brain". The TMC1501 calculator-on-a-chip was faulty. This, in turn, led me to read more about this particular calculator and how the CPU inside functions.

Fortunately, I am 'standing on the shoulders of giants' here - three people that have been of great help to me are Joerg Woerner, Jeff Parsons and Paul Novaes. All have humored me by answering my emails and helping me understand how the hardware works.

Ti57mcu: common questions

What microcontroller does the Ti57mcu use?

The Ti57mcu is built around the STM32F103TBUX, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Ti57mcu PCB?

The Ti57mcu measures 18 × 74 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.58 mm thick.

How many components are on the Ti57mcu?

30 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Ti57mcu design files?

From the tomcircuit/rcl57mcu repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Ti57mcu design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with tomcircuit. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Ti57mcu without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
