About the KiCad Tut.1 PCB

KiCad Tut.1 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by uniqueacevedo, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 80.9 × 53.7 mm, with 10 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74HC595 and CC56-12SRWA. By type, the board carries 4 resistors, 3 capacitors, 2 ICs and 1 module.

From the project

A collection of small PCB design exercises created to strengthen my understanding of KiCad, circuit design, and the hardware development workflow.

This folder documents a series of small, self-directed hardware design projects created as part of my ongoing learning in PCB design, circuit analysis, and embedded systems development. Each project focuses on practicing a specific concept or workflow step — from schematic capture and component selection to layout, routing, and validation — all using KiCad.

These mini builds are my way of exploring the full hardware pipeline hands-on: - Translating ideas into functional circuit schematics - Designing clean, manufacturable two-layer PCBs - Reviewing footprints, clearances, and signal paths -…

KiCad Tut.1: common questions

What microcontroller does the KiCad Tut.1 use?

The KiCad Tut.1 is built around the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the KiCad Tut.1 PCB?

The KiCad Tut.1 measures 80.9 × 53.7 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.600198 mm thick.

How many components are on the KiCad Tut.1?

10 components, from 6 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the KiCad Tut.1 design files?

From the uniqueacevedo/KiCad-Mini-Projects repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the KiCad Tut.1 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which uniqueacevedo chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the KiCad Tut.1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
