About the Midi laser PCB

Midi laser is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by usr-ein, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 80 × 60 mm, with 22 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ProMicro, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the SPX3819M5-L. By type, the board carries 8 connectors, 6 resistors, 5 capacitors, 2 ICs and 1 switch.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open source standalone DJ multimedia player, compatible with Rekordbox

A custom DJ media player — a CDJ-style deck — built from scratch around a Raspberry Pi, designed to run Mixxx DJ software. It reuses an original Pioneer CDJ's buttons and jog wheel behind custom PCBs and a 3D-printed chassis for an authentic DJ feel, and reads Rekordbox-formatted USB sticks — no laptop required.

The 1024×600 touchscreen runs a purpose-built Mixxx skin (mixxxconfig/TriMixxxskin). There is no mouse and no laptop: every control is either on the deck or under a thumb, so the UI is built around big targets and the browse encoder rather than around pointer precision.

Midi laser: common questions

What microcontroller does the Midi laser use?

The Midi laser is built around the ProMicro, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Midi laser PCB?

The Midi laser measures 80 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Midi laser?

22 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Midi laser design files?

From the usr-ein/TriMixxx repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Midi laser design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which usr-ein chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Midi laser without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
