About the Serial wio PCB

Serial wio is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by virtualabs, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 102 × 53.5 mm, with 10 components from 5 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry_Pi_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family. By type, the board carries 3 transistors, 3 resistors and 2 connectors.

Case printing and assembly --------------------------

A custom case has been designed to fit the WioTerminal, it allows normal multimeter probes to be used and protects the electronics.

The case is made of 3 independent parts that may be 3d printed with any decent 3d printer:

Serial wio: common questions

What microcontroller does the Serial wio use?

The Serial wio is built around the Raspberry_Pi_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Serial wio PCB?

The Serial wio measures 102 × 53.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Serial wio?

10 components, from 5 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Serial wio design files?

From the virtualabs/serial-wio repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Serial wio design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Serial wio without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
