About the Echo PCB

Echo is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by VulcanWM, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 93.6 × 80.2 mm, with 11 components from 5 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-SMD, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 3 switches, 3 diodes, 3 resistors, 1 IC and 1 buzzer.

This is my first hardware project, in which I made a Simon Says game by designing a PCB and writing the firmware for it.

This is my first hardware project, in which I made a Simon Says game by designing a PCB and writing the firmware for it.

The components involved are a XIAO RP2040 as the microcontroller, 3 switches which represent the possible options the player has to press, 3 different coloured LEDs that light up when introducing the sequence, resistors to stop the LEDs from receiving too much current, and a buzzer so the game is not just vision-based but also audio-based.

Echo: common questions

What microcontroller does the Echo use?

The Echo is built around the XIAO-RP2040-SMD, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Echo PCB?

The Echo measures 93.6 × 80.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Echo?

11 components, from 5 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Echo design files?

From the VulcanWM/echo repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Echo design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with VulcanWM. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Echo without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
