About the 65 percent keyboard PCB

65 percent keyboard is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by wemsh05, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 335.5 × 146 mm, with 157 components from 83 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 69 switches, 69 diodes, 8 capacitors, 6 resistors, 1 IC and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

This would be my first attempt to make a 65% keyboard pcb and hopefully the shell

This 65% keyboard is the first time I designed a pcb of my own and safe to say that I am really proud of it. The reason that I started with a keyboard is that my first mechanical keyboard used the classic ANSI layout. While usable, an idea popped in my head: what if I make my own keyboard that has 4 keys to the left of the space bar just like the laptop keyboards, and here I am.

65 percent keyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the 65 percent keyboard use?

The 65 percent keyboard is built around the ATMEGA32U4-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the 65 percent keyboard PCB?

The 65 percent keyboard measures 335.5 × 146 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the 65 percent keyboard?

157 components, from 83 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 65 percent keyboard design files?

From the wemsh05/65_percent_keyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 65 percent keyboard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with wemsh05. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the 65 percent keyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
