About the Openstint transponder PCB

Openstint transponder is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by zsellera, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 18.5 × 15 mm, with 34 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny816/1616, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 10 MHz and SPX3819M5-L-3-3. By type, the board carries 13 capacitors, 11 resistors, 3 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 inductors and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery.

Reference design of OpenStint transponder with ATTiny816

RC (surface) racing transponder with ATtiny816/1616/3216, featuring: OpenStint protocol reference implentation (this is not an RC3 clone!) 5 MHz BPSK using SPI MOSI (UART module can send SPI without transmit gaps) A two-transistor push-pull coil driver Signal level is circa the same as of an RC4 Works down to 2.8V, output level remains flat down to 3.4V (MiniZ/1S support) Reverse polarity protection Power line filtering LCSC product codes added (orderable from JLCPCB)

Openstint transponder: common questions

What microcontroller does the Openstint transponder use?

The Openstint transponder is built around the ATtiny816/1616, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Openstint transponder PCB?

The Openstint transponder measures 18.5 × 15 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the Openstint transponder?

34 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Openstint transponder design files?

From the zsellera/openstint-transponder repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Openstint transponder design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with zsellera. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Openstint transponder without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
