About the McQueen PCB

McQueen is an open source STM32 PCB design by 0BitsnBytes, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 6-layer board measuring 100.5 × 101.5 mm, with 137 components from 43 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the U?, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the IR21084, INA180A2, LM2596S-ADJ, SL78M05 and ET52333. By type, the board carries 63 resistors, 24 capacitors, 18 diodes, 11 ICs, 6 transistors and 5 connectors.

It belongs with the robotics & motion, power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

an overpowered rc car that poses a danger to my safety :)

McQueen is an AWD RC car with 4 drone-hub-motors. Featuring a DIY 80A ESC with current sense and braking. A fully custom double wishbone suspension with an aerodynamic chassis all powered by 2 6S Lipo batteries.

Most RC cars are seen as toys, McQueen is definitely not one of those. It is an attempt to combine high current electronics, aerodynamic bodies, and complex suspension geometries into a small RC Car.

McQueen: common questions

What microcontroller does the McQueen use?

The McQueen is built around the U?, from the STM32 family.

How big is the McQueen PCB?

The McQueen measures 100.5 × 101.5 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the McQueen?

137 components, from 43 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the McQueen design files?

From the 0BitsnBytes/McQueen repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the McQueen design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which 0BitsnBytes chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the McQueen without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
