About the OddPCIe PCB

OddPCIe is an open source PCB design by a-little-wifi, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 30.5 × 45.5 mm, with 15 components from 8 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the AP1117-33. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 3 connectors, 2 diodes, 2 resistors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

PCIe breakout for Dell Latitude laptop optical drive modular bay

The optical drive (odd) SATA ports on a number of Dell Latitude laptops from 2011-2013 have a PCIe x1 lane hidden in them, meant for use with the AE3USB01 (DP/N P5MKF) USB 3.0 expansion module:

Note: The E6440, E6540 and M2800 don't seem to support hot-plug on this PCIe port, as they never actually shipped with anything using this port (the AE3USB01's bezel doesn't even line up with the case)

OddPCIe: common questions

How big is the OddPCIe PCB?

The OddPCIe measures 30.5 × 45.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 4.69 mm thick.

How many components are on the OddPCIe?

15 components, from 8 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the OddPCIe design files?

From the a-little-wifi/oddPCIe repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the OddPCIe design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with a-little-wifi. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
