About the Nifty Numpad PCB

Nifty Numpad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Acliad, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 118.4 × 129.7 mm, with 170 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the 3.3V, C5359995, SN74LVC1T45DCK and W25Q40CLSNIG. By type, the board carries 66 diodes, 52 capacitors, 35 switches, 8 resistors, 5 ICs and 3 connectors.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

Full sized numpad with an extra row and two extra columns of macro keys. It was created as a companion to my TKL keyboard for CAD design.

Nifty Numpad is a full sized numpad with an extra row and two extra columns of macro keys. It was created because I wanted a companion to my TKL keyboard for work. My main workflow involves heavy use of ECAD programs, so the design was tailored for that, but it is generic enough to be nice for many workflows!

The main features are: - Full sized numpad with row of macro/function keys on the top - Two extra columns of macro keys - Cherry MX style socketed switches - Backlit keys - 3D printable case (FDM or resin)

Nifty Numpad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Nifty Numpad use?

The Nifty Numpad is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Nifty Numpad PCB?

The Nifty Numpad measures 118.4 × 129.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6262 mm thick.

How many components are on the Nifty Numpad?

170 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Nifty Numpad design files?

From the Acliad/Nifty-Numpad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Nifty Numpad design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-1.2 license, which Acliad chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Nifty Numpad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
