The device generates the movement of a magnet according to an input audio signal. For this purpose the device generates a PWM signal with polarity (positive and negative half cycle) to excite an electromagnet. This signal is proportional to an analog input signal (audio source). It has two symmetrical channels and it responds to different frequencies, signal levels and waveforms.

Silent audio motion: common questions

What microcontroller does the Silent audio motion use?

The Silent audio motion is built around the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Silent audio motion PCB?

The Silent audio motion measures 70 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Silent audio motion?

68 components, from 32 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Silent audio motion design files?

From the akornsys-rdi/silent-audio-motion repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Silent audio motion design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which akornsys-rdi chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Silent audio motion without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
