About the Rpi managed switch-4-port PCB

Rpi managed switch-4-port is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by AlbrechtL, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 85 × 90.4 mm, with 128 components from 33 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the SSW-120-01-T-D-006, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the ENC28J60-I/SO, TPS562231 and RTL8367S. By type, the board carries 54 resistors, 42 capacitors, 6 connectors, 4 ICs, 3 diodes and 3 inductors.

From the project

An open-source Raspberry Pi 4-port gigabit managed switch

An open-source 4-port gigabit managed switch HAT based on a Raspberry Pi with OpenWrt support.

Disclaimer: This is an ongoing project where some features are not working, and some hardware bugs may exist.

The hardware works with a adapted OpenWrt: https://github.com/AlbrechtL/openwrt/tree/rpimanagedswitch

I added the following to OpenWrt: Device tree overlays for DSA Enabled the ENC28J60 driver Added a small patch to enable the ENC28J60 for DSA Added detection of DSA in the first boot scripts so that OpenWrt uses the switch

Rpi managed switch-4-port: common questions

What microcontroller does the Rpi managed switch-4-port use?

The Rpi managed switch-4-port is built around the SSW-120-01-T-D-006, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Rpi managed switch-4-port PCB?

The Rpi managed switch-4-port measures 85 × 90.4 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Rpi managed switch-4-port?

128 components, from 33 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Rpi managed switch-4-port design files?

From the AlbrechtL/rpi-managed-switch-4-port repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Rpi managed switch-4-port design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which AlbrechtL chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Rpi managed switch-4-port without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
