About the Small fry PCB
Small fry is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by anchovie-codes, published on GitHub under the CC0-1.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 365 × 103 mm, with 139 components from 6 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 69 LEDs, 69 diodes and 1 IC.
It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.
From the project
a not-so-small keyboard with a fishy layout
- 1x Raspberry Pi Pico (make sure you get an authentic one with the castellated pins) - 69x SOD123 diodes (e.g. 1N4148W) - 69 MX or Alps switches (i strongly recommend MX unless you are confident in fabricating your own keycaps) - 2x 2U stabilizers - 53x 1U keycaps - 14x 1.75U keycaps - 1x 2.25U keycap - 1x 2.75U keycap
- a heat gun + solder paste are highly recommended for soldering the diodes, however they can be hand-soldered if you are patient and skilled. - soldering iron + solder wire for soldering the switches and MCU.

Small fry: common questions
What microcontroller does the Small fry use?
The Small fry is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.
How big is the Small fry PCB?
The Small fry measures 365 × 103 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Small fry?
139 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Small fry design files?
From the anchovie-codes/small-fry repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Small fry design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its CC0-1.0 license, which anchovie-codes chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Small fry without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
