About the DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon PCB

DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon is an open source STM32 PCB design by androda, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 39.1 × 90.6 mm, with 19 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F030C8Tx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the SHTC3. By type, the board carries 5 capacitors, 4 connectors, 4 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 switches and 1 battery holder.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

PCB Designs By Androda

The LED flashes about once per second (internal oscillators being as they are), with a color based on the calculated Heat Index. Note that these temperatures are all in Fahrenheit. Blue for < 80 degrees, Green for 81 to 90 degrees, Yellow for 91 to 104 degrees, Red for 105 to 125 degrees, and Purple for anything above that.

The "yellow" color doesn't work very well due to lack of time in figuring out good PWM mixing values. I use the term PWM loosely here, it's basically manual PWM due to issues with getting hardware PWM working properly

DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon: common questions

What microcontroller does the DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon use?

The DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon is built around the STM32F030C8Tx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon PCB?

The DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon measures 39.1 × 90.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon?

19 components, from 13 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon design files?

From the androda/PCBDesigns repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the DefCon31 HeatIndex BadgeAddon without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
