About the GenericSensor v2 PCB

GenericSensor v2 is an open source STM32 PCB design by angelnu, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 25 × 59.7 mm, with 33 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32L041K6Tx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the RFM95W-868S2. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 3 connectors, 2 ICs, 2 resistors, 1 crystal and 1 antenna.

It belongs with the sensors and power & battery designs in this gallery, and the repository also holds 1 earlier revision of it.

This device exposed all available GPIOs from the 32 pin STM32 so external sensors can be attached. Multiple use cases are listed bellow.

This verssion is backwards compatible (same posssitions for all components, even the v1 stencil might be used) but adds support for additional pull-ups or pull-downs. Check the schematic bellow to understand the options: there are two sets of solder jumpers that allow pull-up or pull-down selection. Also using 0R you can enable additional 3V and GND outputs.

GenericSensor v2: common questions

What microcontroller does the GenericSensor v2 use?

The GenericSensor v2 is built around the STM32L041K6Tx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the GenericSensor v2 PCB?

The GenericSensor v2 measures 25 × 59.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the GenericSensor v2?

33 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the GenericSensor v2 design files?

From the angelnu/LorawanSensor repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the GenericSensor v2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which angelnu chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the GenericSensor v2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
