About the Macropad V2 PCB

Macropad V2 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by ANSHUMANDOCX, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 110 × 120 mm, with 64 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the DEV-18288, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the SL2.1A. By type, the board carries 35 diodes, 20 switches, 2 ICs, 2 capacitors, 2 resistors and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

I wanted to make a macropad with enough keys for my purpose. I started out by getting a microcontroller with enough pins and one that is able to run CircuitPython, since I wanted to use KMK as the firmware. This can be programmed for MIDI control as well. It also has RGB LEDs for underglow.

Macropad V2: common questions

What microcontroller does the Macropad V2 use?

The Macropad V2 is built around the DEV-18288, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Macropad V2 PCB?

The Macropad V2 measures 110 × 120 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Macropad V2?

64 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Macropad V2 design files?

From the ANSHUMANDOCX/Macropad_V2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Macropad V2 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ANSHUMANDOCX. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Macropad V2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
