About the Alpha dre PCB

Alpha dre is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by AntoineAndre, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 243.7 × 81.8 mm, with 105 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega32U4-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the PRTR5V0U2X. By type, the board carries 42 diodes, 8 capacitors, 6 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 LEDs and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

Minimalist 42-key keyboard with an ISO layout

Or "How to fit an ISO layout in a 40% keyboard ?"

This project started as a need to find a new mechanical keyboard with a french ISO layout support. It also aims to keep a minimalist design that we can find on most 40% keyboards. It will therefore include all the 3D CAD files and various pcb related files to conduct the project along with a documentation to build the keyboard.

Alpha dre: common questions

What microcontroller does the Alpha dre use?

The Alpha dre is built around the ATmega32U4-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Alpha dre PCB?

The Alpha dre measures 243.7 × 81.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Alpha dre?

105 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Alpha dre design files?

From the AntoineAndre/alpha_dre repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Alpha dre design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which AntoineAndre chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Alpha dre without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
