About the Dlr sensor hat

Dlr sensor hat is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by arcnode-io, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 80 mm, with 24 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the CM4, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the AP2112K-3.3 and LP5907MFX-3.8. By type, the board carries 8 capacitors, 7 connectors, 5 resistors, 2 ICs, 1 transistor and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the power & battery, sensors and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Solar-powered RTU sensor HAT for transmission tower DLR deployment

Solar-powered remote terminal unit (RTU) deployed unattended on transmission tower cross-arms. A ~20W solar panel and ~50Wh LiFePO4 battery keep the CM4 running indefinitely with cellular PSM idle. A soldered Quectel BG770A (LTE Cat-M1) publishes sensor data and dynamic ratings to the MQTT broker — no site WiFi or wired backhaul required. The unit is designed for 30-year conductor-adjacent deployment with no scheduled maintenance.

Dlr sensor hat: common questions

What microcontroller does the Dlr sensor hat use?

The Dlr sensor hat is built around the CM4, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Dlr sensor hat?

The Dlr sensor hat measures 100 × 80 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Dlr sensor hat?

24 components, from 22 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Dlr sensor hat design files?

From the arcnode-io/dlr-rtu-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Dlr sensor hat design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with arcnode-io. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Dlr sensor hat without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
