About the Frontpanel PCB

Frontpanel is an open source PIC PCB design by asanza, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 132.5 × 20.5 mm, with 28 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the DSPIC33FJ64GP802, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the LTP-7357AG, TLC5928 and MIC2981. By type, the board carries 16 ICs, 8 connectors and 4 resistors.

It belongs with the test & measurement and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

Upgrades for an old Keithley 199 multimeter

This is an upgrade replacement for the digital control board on Keithley 199 multimeters.

The Keithley 199 is a digital multimeter built in the nineties. It is capable of current, voltage and resistance measurements and also provides a gpib interface for remote control.

These multimeters contains three electronic circuit boards, one which contains the analog circuitry, including analog signal conditioning and analog digital converter, a display board which contains the user interface, and a digital control board, with a processor who controls display, gpib interface and analog digital…

Frontpanel: common questions

What microcontroller does the Frontpanel use?

The Frontpanel is built around the DSPIC33FJ64GP802, from the PIC family.

How big is the Frontpanel PCB?

The Frontpanel measures 132.5 × 20.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Frontpanel?

28 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Frontpanel design files?

From the asanza/keithley_199 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Frontpanel design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which asanza chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Frontpanel without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
