The goal is a CB-radio-style handheld PTT mic for a computer, and nothing off the shelf does the whole job. USB PTT mics are desktop/gooseneck units, handheld dispatch mics with the right feel are not USB (XLR, RJ45, or radio-specific plugs) and need extra hardware, and USB handheld mics have no PTT switch. Level-triggered or software PTT is unreliable; the mic's physical switch should be the trigger.

Kenwood rj45-usb ptt: common questions

What microcontroller does the Kenwood rj45-usb ptt use?

The Kenwood rj45-usb ptt is built around the 102010428, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Kenwood rj45-usb ptt PCB?

The Kenwood rj45-usb ptt measures 72 × 42 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Kenwood rj45-usb ptt?

19 components, from 12 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Kenwood rj45-usb ptt design files?

From the AugusDogus/kenwood-rj45-usb-ptt repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Kenwood rj45-usb ptt design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with AugusDogus. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Kenwood rj45-usb ptt without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
