About the Macropad PCB

Macropad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by aurkie, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 63.2 × 92.6 mm, with 12 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 9 switches, 2 diodes and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

Macropad

Deriving from exploring classes at school involving CAD, I developed a strong passion as I really enjoyed the aspects of CAD as a whole, I loved designing and the rewarding feeling at the end of completing a project knowing that I designed that was amazing to me. I discovered Hackclub not too long ago and I thought starting with a macropad project would be perfect for learning the basics of new applications: KiCAD, Fusion360 and VSCode. My macropad consists of 9 keys, I always find myself utilising programmed tasks for my computer to complete on it's own so I can proceed with other things…

Macropad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Macropad use?

The Macropad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Macropad PCB?

The Macropad measures 63.2 × 92.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Macropad?

12 components, from 3 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Macropad design files?

From the aurkie/Macropad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Macropad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with aurkie. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Macropad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
