About the Ayrton PCB

Ayrton is an open source STM32 PCB design by azonenberg, published on GitHub under the BSD-3-Clause license. It is a board, with 191 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32MP257FAI3, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the XC7K160T-2FFG676C, ECS-1612MV-250-CN, KSZ9031RN, RCLAMP0514M and B1621PM2FDGUK-U. By type, the board carries 127 capacitors, 39 resistors, 8 diodes, 7 ICs, 4 test points and 4 inductors.

It belongs with the test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

Many-channel low speed high bit depth oscilloscope/DAQ

Project namesake: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HerthaMarksAyrton

High level goal: 1U gizmo with as many front panel probe inputs as we can. Extreme dynamic range and low sample rate, one primary goal is monitoring power supply behavior during startup so we want the dynamic range to simultaneously see startup ramps from zero and switching transients / control loop response.

Ayrton: common questions

What microcontroller does the Ayrton use?

The Ayrton is built around the STM32MP257FAI3, from the STM32 family.

How many components are on the Ayrton?

191 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Ayrton design files?

From the azonenberg/ayrton repository on GitHub, which has the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Ayrton design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its BSD-3-Clause license, which azonenberg chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Ayrton without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
