About the SandFan PCB

SandFan is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by BabayoAP, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 78 × 46 mm, with 40 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the AP2112K-3.3TRG1 and MCP73831T-2ACI/OT. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 9 capacitors, 6 switches, 5 diodes, 3 ICs and 3 connectors.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

Meant for climbers, a two-in-one portable device: - Variable speed enclosed fan for drying out wet hands on one side. - Variable speed skin-sander for grinding down overgrown calluses.

- Power: The battery feeds the motors directly (about 3.0 to 4.2 V). An AP2112K low-dropout regulator makes 3.3 V for the logic. The XIAO's own USB-C port charges the battery through an MCP73831 charger (about 200 mA), so there is no second USB connector. The battery can be charged while the switch is off. - Motor drive: Each motor has its own AO3400A logic-level N-MOSFET on the low side, driven by a 20 kHz…

SandFan: common questions

What microcontroller does the SandFan use?

The SandFan is built around the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the SandFan PCB?

The SandFan measures 78 × 46 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SandFan?

40 components, from 23 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SandFan design files?

From the BabayoAP/SandFan repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SandFan design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with BabayoAP. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the SandFan without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
