About the Backplane PCB

Backplane is an open source STM32 PCB design by bastien313, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 197 × 90 mm, with 34 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32H753ZITx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the L7805, FT230XS and TJA1021T. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 11 connectors, 5 ICs and 1 crystal.

From the project

Open test bench is an open-source platform for drive or characterize any type of system. The system is made for simplifying the development of additional modules called "peripheral module". User connect his computer to backplane unit which gives an access to the peripheral.

Open test bench is an open-source platform for drive or characterize any type of system. The system is made for simplifying the development of additional modules called "peripheral module". User connect his computer to backplane unit which gives an access to the peripheral.

Backplane unit is the main block of the system. It can receive 4 peripherals modules and link user computer to peripheral module. More peripherals modules can be added with the extension module but with slower communication speed.

Backplane: common questions

What microcontroller does the Backplane use?

The Backplane is built around the STM32H753ZITx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Backplane PCB?

The Backplane measures 197 × 90 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Backplane?

34 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Backplane design files?

From the bastien313/Open-test-bench repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Backplane design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which bastien313 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Backplane without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
