About the Afterglow gi nano PCB

Afterglow gi nano is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by bitfieldlabs, published on GitHub under the LGPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 69 × 118.5 mm, with 52 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74LS374 and L7805. By type, the board carries 24 resistors, 6 diodes, 5 transistors, 5 connectors, 5 fuses and 3 capacitors.

From the project

afterglow GI

AFTERGLOW GI is a WPC pinball machine extension board that aims at softening the hard light on/off transitions that result in replacing the original GI incandescent bulbs with LEDs.

The brain of the board is a Arduino nano. It monitors the triac signals on the WPC bus and adjusts the PWM of the GI lines accordingly in order to dim the LEDs. For this purpose the whole GI is powered on DC voltage as opposed to the original AC 6.3V.

Afterglow gi nano: common questions

What microcontroller does the Afterglow gi nano use?

The Afterglow gi nano is built around the ARDUINO_NANO_V3.X, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Afterglow gi nano PCB?

The Afterglow gi nano measures 69 × 118.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Afterglow gi nano?

52 components, from 22 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Afterglow gi nano design files?

From the bitfieldlabs/aggi repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Afterglow gi nano design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its LGPL-3.0 license, which bitfieldlabs chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Afterglow gi nano without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
