About the AFE PCB

AFE is an open source PCB design by Blaze-Pascal, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 198 components from 47 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LMV358, CDCV304, MCP4551T-103E/MS, MCP4728 and Tang_Nano_9K. By type, the board carries 89 resistors, 66 capacitors, 18 ICs, 9 connectors, 5 transistors and 4 diodes.

It belongs with the test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

Custom 2-channel digital oscilloscope DAQ with 20MHz bandwidth. Built with a custom KiCad analog front-end (AFE) PCB, Gowin FPGA (Tang Nano 9K) for high-speed signal buffering (VHDL), and an RPi Pico MCU for SCPI-like control. Includes a simple Python GUI for data visualization.

Goal: Build a custom data acquisition system capable of capturing and displaying fast analog signals with at least a 15 MHz bandwidth.

Project Scope: - Custom PCB & Analog Front-End (AFE): Designed and routed in KiCad. - FPGA Data Acquisition Engine (DAQ): Written in VHDL, deployed on a Tang Nano 9K (Gowin GW1NR-9). - MCU Control & Data Handling: Written in C (Arduino core) on a Raspberry Pi Pico, featuring a pseudo-SCPI command parser. - PC Software: A basic Python GUI for data visualization.
