About the Bloop box core PCB

Bloop box core is an open source ESP32 PCB design by bloop-box, published on GitHub under the BSD-2-Clause license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 65 × 44 mm, with 35 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C5-WROOM-1U, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3 and 74LVC125APW. By type, the board carries 18 resistors, 8 capacitors, 3 ICs, 3 connectors, 2 switches and 1 diode.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

This board is supposed to replace the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W in the bloop box with a cheaper alternative, using an ESP32-C5.

This board is supposed to replace the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W in the bloop box with a cheaper alternative, using an ESP32-C5.

It will support all functions of the bloop box and can be used as a drop-in-replacement for the Raspi. In addition, due to the capabilities of the ESP32-C5 this will have support for 5GHz WiFi.

Bloop box core: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bloop box core use?

The Bloop box core is built around the ESP32-C5-WROOM-1U, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Bloop box core PCB?

The Bloop box core measures 65 × 44 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bloop box core?

35 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bloop box core design files?

From the bloop-box/bloop-box-core repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bloop box core design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its BSD-2-Clause license, which bloop-box chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Bloop box core without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
