About the Simple-ESC PCB

Simple-ESC is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by bluefeng2, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 80 × 41.8 mm, with 37 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Waveshare rp2350b, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the AP62150WU and DRV8323SRTAT. By type, the board carries 13 capacitors, 8 resistors, 6 transistors, 6 connectors, 3 ICs and 1 inductor.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

Single motor ESC based on AM32

A simple brushless motor ESC designed as a test/prototype for a larger dual-ESC project.

The goal of this board is to get a basic ESC working first before integrating the design into the final project. It is intentionally relatively simple and is mainly being used to validate the schematic, PCB layout, components, and firmware. ## Features

Single BLDC motor ESC Designed to eventually become a dual-ESC RP2350-based control DRV8323 3-phase gate driver SPI communication Battery voltage monitoring

Simple-ESC: common questions

What microcontroller does the Simple-ESC use?

The Simple-ESC is built around the Waveshare rp2350b, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Simple-ESC PCB?

The Simple-ESC measures 80 × 41.8 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Simple-ESC?

37 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Simple-ESC design files?

From the bluefeng2/Simple-ESC repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Simple-ESC design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with bluefeng2. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Simple-ESC without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
