About the Sympetrum V2 PCB

Sympetrum V2 is an open source STM32 PCB design by borgel, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a board measuring 98.8 × 77.4 mm, with 60 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F030K6T6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the TSSP58P38, APA102_5050 and AAT1217ICA-3.3-T1. By type, the board carries 20 jumpers, 13 ICs, 11 capacitors, 4 diodes, 4 resistors and 1 switch.

It belongs with the wearables designs in this gallery.

From the project

A communicative piece of wearable electronics.

If you'd rather do things the hard way you can directly upload the BOM to Digikey or a tool like Octopart which will make it easy to order from a variety of suppliers.

To recompile the firmware for this CPU edit the Makefile and swap the CPU variable by commenting out the line for STM32F030x6 and in the one for STM32F051x8.

The firmware is "version 4" and is tagged as a release on GitHub (and in the Firmware directory).

Sympetrum V2: common questions

What microcontroller does the Sympetrum V2 use?

The Sympetrum V2 is built around the STM32F030K6T6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Sympetrum V2 PCB?

The Sympetrum V2 measures 98.8 × 77.4 mm and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Sympetrum V2?

60 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Sympetrum V2 design files?

From the borgel/sympetrum-v2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Sympetrum V2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which borgel chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Sympetrum V2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
