LED Strip Driver PCB

A 16x WS2812/SK6812 ledstrip driver for my LED ball with 900 SK6812 LEDs.

Essentially a clone to the awesome fadecandy board, but with a faster MCU and a second buffer chip connected to PORTC bits 0-7, allowing me to drive 16x80 RGB chips, or 16x60 RGBW chips.

Hex2811-penta: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hex2811-penta use?

The Hex2811-penta is built around the MK20DX256VLH7, from the NXP family.

How big is the Hex2811-penta PCB?

The Hex2811-penta measures 20 × 42.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hex2811-penta?

39 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hex2811-penta design files?

From the brainsmoke/hex2811-penta repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hex2811-penta design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which brainsmoke chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Hex2811-penta without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
