About the Smallreplacement PCB

Smallreplacement is an open source FPGA PCB design by c0pperdragon, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 43.8 × 60.3 mm, with 88 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the 10M02SCE144, from the FPGA family. By type, the board carries 39 resistors, 33 capacitors, 3 inductors, 1 IC, 1 connector and 1 switch.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

Component video modification for the C64 8-bit computer

I made a smaller variant of the RF replacement board that can be used in C128 machines as well as in the C64C. By not supporting the "long" C64 boards with their 12V VIC, this FPGA board could be made as small as the smaller variant of the RF modulator and this should now also fit where the original board was too large.

Smallreplacement: common questions

What microcontroller does the Smallreplacement use?

The Smallreplacement is built around the 10M02SCE144, from the FPGA family.

How big is the Smallreplacement PCB?

The Smallreplacement measures 43.8 × 60.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Smallreplacement?

88 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Smallreplacement design files?

From the c0pperdragon/C64-Video-Enhancement repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Smallreplacement design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which c0pperdragon chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Smallreplacement without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
